How do you print a 2m wide, 1.5m high full colour poster? That was the challenge Litchfield Morris faced when asked by IHS to produce a World Sedimentary Basin map for sale to their clients. IHS had the map produced some five years ago, but because of the detail and complex information contained within the map, no printer had successfully printed the whole map. Litchfield Morris took the original artwork, almost 200Mb in size and reduced the data file size to a more manageable 30Mb. This was achieved by converting all the text on the document and removing redundant data held within the file. Now the artwork was a manageable file size, the next issue was finding an offset lithographic press large enough to accomplish the task. After an extensive search Litchfield Morris were able to source a wonderful new partner who not only printed the job color perfect, but to exact registration across the map, and by using the stochastic screen print method the overall clarity, and therefore usability, of the map was enhanced. IHS have been incredibly impressed with the end result and Litchfield Morris look forward to the next large format print job to challenge us!
