marketing matters

One of the most overlooked aspects of marketing is the critical review, looking back to assess what marketing has actually achieved for the business in real terms as a return on investment.

Which media has been delivering, which messages have drawn responses, which campaigns have boosted sales, which tone of voice has been most effective– are all questions that need to be asked to keep business marketing investment healthy.

The difficulty is, of course, it is not always clear and can be difficult to discern the most effective activity. ʻIf itʼs working why fix it?ʼ is also an approach which can prevail. It is easy to be complacent if a campaign has worked well in the past and takes a degree of courage to discover and try a new approach, or face up to activity that has not delivered.

Whilst the economic tide seems to be turning, there is still uncertainty and the challenge of continual change. What is certain is the need to accurately assess the business marketing spend, activity and delivery. An objective review of products and services, customer satisfaction and new business development is a worthwhile audit.

We are increasingly being contacted by businesses seeking an objective review of their marketing, business development and communication strategies. Our review is in the form of a bespoke questionnaire tailored to research the products and services, strengths and weaknesses, ethos and values of the business, client relationships, marketing campaigns and new business growth.

Marketing and its review is a real business challenge, but like a personal health check, it is something we need to put in place regularly if we are to stay healthy for the year ahead. Putting a Marketing Review in place, should be at the top of every businessʼ list, as we make New Year resolutions for business growth.
